There lay an angel!

Is this poetry? is this prose? I know not the answer for this riddle...but the words poured out and I couldn't help it.

There lay an angel...

Her eyes sought some long lost picture
But all she could see were people moving along,
Dilapidated buildings and crowded markets.
She could look at the whole wide world
But the world could see only her eyes….
Only a pair of green emeralds, glittering at times with grief.

Did she ever feel pleasure or pain?
No one could make a guess,
Her stoic countenance never gave much away.
She had lost touch with herself
The past still hung upon her present
As a shadow that frightened away happiness.

The wind brushed across her face,
As if to wipe away tears that had never once been shed.
The birds sang to comfort her soul,
The waves rose high to fill her heart with hope,
Alas it was too late!
She was oblivious to the term “everything-around-her”

A lonely soldier marching up the highland
Had once been enshrined in her heart.
She wanted to see him just one last time
Since she knew she will not live long.
She had travelled all this distance and crossed the seas,
To see the one face in which she could seek peace.

Her eyes met his,
Her purpose thus fulfilled and heart appeased,
She lay in a dreamless sleep…as if never to awaken.
That night, as the first snow flake kissed her face
"There lay an angel", the flake told her friends,
"whose soul was truly blessed!"

If you break the prose into different lines, it becomes poetry :D

Atleast, thats how I feign poetry !

    @dushti
poetry to me is more ordered, yet more abstract, can be subject to various intrepretation yet has the authors own style...

poetry to me is very diffrent from prose. not just in the way of writing it but in the way of explaining the authors intention

In this case, i could not put this in prose..each stanza is ordered in its own way and the intrepretation is what the readers feel...

but i wouldn't call it poetry either since it flows like a story and truly speaking it dosent rhyme but i wouldn't want to write it any other way

    Hence the confusion....:-)

lets defy definition...Its poetry to me..its abstract and yet conveys what it set out to in the first place..Its true to its intention and did not get lost in definitions ...

"The past still hung upon her present
As a shadow that frightened away happiness."
Very very profound. I loved these lines. I always say..your poetry is deep..And it made a better impact as it not try to get rhyming..

all i can say is Brilliant!!!

WIThOUT DOUBT poetry!!!.. Actually i dont go by definitions or the rule book ( lets say I am honestly unaware of any such rules)... but my justification is it so beautifully written and delicately woven into one hell of an amazing flow... that it has to be poetry.

By far the best poetry I have EVER read... really reall well written buddy.. and hey I never knew you could write poems too.. but hey apparently pisceans are very poetic.. :).. so maybe I can point to the stars as the reason ;)

btw really loved the whole poetic narration , and especially your description of her eyes "a pair of green emeralds, glittering at times with grief".. really I have to give it to you yaar... u just maintained that tempo of sadness and the way u constantly linked it to the waves , wind.. mind blowing..

So much for me writing a book.. you better come up with a book ;).. and I am serious :)

"There lay an angel", the flake told her friends,
    "whose soul was truly blessed!"

that mention of "Flake told her friends".. nice touch... hats off!!

Sincere request from a fan: Do come up with one more poem :)

hey thx dude! actually my fav line was also "green emeralds, glittering at times with grief" :-) kinda formed an alliteration(hope thats the correct spelling!)

will try my best to honor your request in the coming days! glad to know u liked the poem and that i have a fan...:-)

    @princess

Hmmm i don know abt the poetic aspect of it but one thing i can say is that pisceans are not grounded to reality, they just somehow seem to elude gravity and float around in their own imaginay world!:-)

almost reminds me of phoebe when she says "i don believe in gravity. i don feel pulled down so much as being pushed away" :-)

Hey yeah it did form an excellent alliteration. As for the spelling of alliteration... who cares when u have an excellent poem to back it up :)

and please do comeup with atleast one more poem :).Btw I totally agree about the ground reality problems of pisceans I am one too :). But hey whats wrong in floating in dreams .. life is better that way :D. Yeah.. I do remember that friends thingy of Phoebe... lol.. totally true for pisceans ;)

Whoa! gr8 to know u are a piscean. I believe sometimes only a piscean can understand another. we are sometimes so far away from being grounded to reality. but i luv every bit of being one!

Simply Superb! words are put beautifully to capture the moments.. As I don't know precisely about poetry and prose, I can't say where ur masterpiece fits..

I don't know the meaning of some of the words u have used.. but could get the meaning as i read..
