Another Rainy day!

"Can you hurry up? I’m already 15 minutes late for work!" Rohit was yelling at the top of his voice while his wife Neeta was rushing to pack their lunch. After all the last minute checks, they finally stepped out of the house. This was the scenario almost every single day. Somehow they could never step out of the house without engaging in a panic attack.

"Now the Red signal! Man, can anything go right today???", shouted a frustrated Rohit.

"It's ok... we are not as late as we were yesterday. You shouldn't lose your temper so easily. The doctor said it’s not good for your blood pressure", wailed Neeta sitting behind in his Hero Honda, a Bike that he had bought when he was in college. Almost a decade had elapsed since then...

And then it happened... the skies darkened, the clouds gathered and all at once they were drenched in a heavy downpour. The roads were filled with people running here and there to find a shelter and park their vehicles.

"We should have a bought a car. Yeah, this is what I need right now... I will have to sit in the office the whole damn day in these wet clothes and shoes with the project manager breathing down my neck for having been late on a deliverable deadline", Cried Rohit and muttered a silent curse.

Just then his attention was distracted by a girl whom he assumed could not be more than 5 years old. She was holding her mother’s hand and crossing the road, her face tilted towards the sky. Her countenance was lit up with an almost angelic smile as if to say that drenching in the rain had to be best feeling on earth.

It brought back memories.... He was sitting in the college cafeteria with a hot cup of masala chai in his hands. Through the window he could see a girl clutching her umbrella with all her might, lest it should be blown away by the combined brute force of the wind and rain. She came up to him to ask directions that would lead to the freshers classrooms and somehow he knew he was going to spend the rest of his life with this girl.

His face broke into a smile. He had forgotten all that was happening around him at that instant. His anger, his frustration, his impatience, melted away because of that single thought. He turned back and and said "Honey, this bike always needs you as it's pillion rider!"

Whoaaa!!!! And I bow innumerable times.. I cant say how beautifully you have written a small incident. Everything was portrayed and I am sure most of your readers would get back to this after they get married :)… I loved the way you brought out small incident like Neeta packing lunch… or “they could never step out of the house without engaging in a panic attack”
And hey its almost an everyday thingy you know.. just when u don’t have to be early to office you wakeup early and there is no traffic jam … you have all green signals .. but the day you got to .. maaan you would never be early to office.. adored the way you brought this out.. Rohit getting frustrated and furious and Neeta as usual consoling him.. and the thing about a hero onda bike.. man you have gone to specifics :)… it kinda projects a standard image to all of us who happened to have ridden on Indian roads you know :)… I can picture them right away.. beautifully done buddy.. and hey one small thing.. I think it always happens once we work in IT there would be something related to that in the post also eh?.. This line sure made me believe Rohit is in IT :).. I will have to sit in the office the whole damn day in these wet clothes and shoes with the project manager breathing down my neck for having been late on a deliverable deadline", Cried Rohit

And dude the transition was brought out really well.. Rohit seeing the small girl and then learning to say To hell with work.. other things are more important in life… and flashback could not be at a better place…. And the whole scene of him drinking a masala chai and meeting her who asks fir direction.. dude really really really weel done… it’s the specifics and the timing and the narration which deserves full credit.. and the ending was just plain superb.. HATS OFF!!!

and again apologies for the late comment.. I will be giving the same excuse for posting a comment so late :)

thx thx thx thx and thx ^ infinity

sorry i cudnt answer to your comments before. I was jus waiting for your comments before penning another blog. And as usual you have understood neeta and Rohit better than anyone else... i cudnt name him Sid bcoz he was not a Sid kinda person.

Actually im totally in love with Rains and i wanted to bring out the flavor of the season that tugs our hearts and makes us feel like children all over again. every time i think abt rains, i can picture myself walking with a schoolbag, a raincoat and a couple of my schoolfriends walking all over the puddles.... And somehow many of us forget all that and start cribbing abt getting drenched and sitting in an AC room... Life has bcome quite cynical in a way!
